Life tastes better with hot, especially the not-so-great cooked things. Apart from that, capsaicin, the active ingredient in chili, is good in many ways: it protects the stomach lining, lowers blood sugar, promotes digestion, and inhibits bacteria. It also stimulates blood flow to the mucous membranes, which improves taste sensation. Freshly ground chilies can do all this especially well.
