Der Architekt des Wiener Rathauses Friedrich von Schmidt setzte den Rathausmann, der diese Stofftasche von Vienna Shit ziert, als Finte ein. Der höchste der fünf Rathaustürme durfte auf Wunsch des Kaisers nicht höher als der Turm der Votivkirche sein. Es galt also 99 Meter nicht zu überschreiten. Nun konstruierte Von Schmidt den Rathausturm für eine Größe von 98 Metern und setzte diesen Rauthausmann oben drauf und der misst nun mal 3,4m Meter! Ätschi Bätschi. Keine Ahnung, ob diese Tatsache dem Kaiser kommuniziert wurde. Jedenfalls steht der Rathausmann noch immer an der Spitze des Rathausturmes und schaut auf die Wiener Bürger und Beamten hinab.
Da diese Bronzeskulptur von unten nicht gut zu sehen ist, wurde vor dem Rathaus im Rathauspark ein Doppelgänger hingestellt. Der hat möglicherweise nicht viel zu tun und wirkt ein wenig so, als würde er überlegen: Heute zu Mittag? Käsekrainer oder Debreziner? Und da steht er wahrscheinlich für eine Vielzahl von Wiener Beamte kurz vor der Mittagspause, die im selben Zwiespalt sind wie der Mann mit der Lanze.

The architect of Vienna City Hall, Friedrich von Schmidt, used the City Hall Man, which adorns this Vienna Shit tote bag, as a clever trick. At the Emperor’s request, the tallest of the five city hall towers was not allowed to be higher than the tower of the Votive Church. The height limit was therefore 99 meters. So, Von Schmidt designed the city hall tower to be 98 meters tall and then placed this City Hall Man on top, and he measures a full 3.4 meters! Take that! I have no idea if this fact was communicated to the Emperor. In any case, the City Hall Man still stands at the top of the city hall tower, looking down on the citizens and civil servants of Vienna.
Since this bronze sculpture is not easily visible from below, a replica has been placed in front of the city hall in the city hall park. He probably doesn’t have much to do and looks a bit like he’s contemplating: What to have for lunch today? Cheese sausage or Debreziner sausage? And there he stands, probably representing a multitude of Viennese civil servants just before their lunch break, who are in the same dilemma as the man with the lance.
